Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about Parents Corner Analytics & Recommendations.
How do I start tracking my child's activities?
▼
Tracking happens automatically! Simply create a profile for your child in the Parents Corner, and as they use the Kids Section (reading stories, practicing verses, playing games), their activities will be recorded automatically.
No setup or configuration needed - just create the profile and let your child explore!
Do I need to create an account?
▼
No! Parents Corner works entirely on your device without any account creation. Just create a child profile and start using it immediately.
This means your data stays completely private and local to your device.
Can I track multiple children?
▼
Yes! You can create separate profiles for each child. Each profile maintains its own activity history, analytics, and recommendations.
Use the profile dropdown at the top of the dashboard to switch between children.
Where is my child's data stored?
▼
All data is stored locally in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to any server or cloud service.
This means:
- Your data is completely private
- No one else can access it
- It works offline
- Data stays on this specific device and browser
Is my child's information safe?
▼
Absolutely! We don't collect any personal information. The only data stored is:
- Profile name (you choose what to enter)
- Age group (4-6, 7-9, or 10-12)
- Activity history (what content was accessed and when)
No email addresses, no passwords, no personal details. Everything stays on your device.
Can I access my child's data from another device?
▼
Not automatically, since data is stored locally on each device. However, you can:
- Export the data from one device (as a JSON file)
- Manually transfer the file to another device
- Import it on the new device (future feature)
This ensures your data never goes through any servers.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
▼
If you clear your browser's localStorage or cookies, all Parents Corner data will be deleted. This includes:
- All profiles
- Activity history
- Recommendations
Tip: Export your data regularly as a backup before clearing browser data!
How are recommendations generated?
▼
Recommendations are generated based on your child's recent activity using a rule-based system:
- Conversation Starters: Based on stories read in the last 3 days
- Verse Practice: Suggestions for verses being memorized
- Theme-Based Study: When multiple activities share a theme (courage, faith, etc.)
- Variety Suggestions: Encouragement to try different activity types
- Age-Appropriate Progression: Next-level content when ready
The system generates 3-5 recommendations at a time, prioritized by relevance.
Why don't I see any recommendations?
▼
Recommendations require some activity history to generate. If you don't see any:
- Make sure your child has completed at least a few activities
- Check that you're viewing the correct profile
- Try clicking "Refresh Recommendations"
- Wait a few minutes after activities are completed
Recommendations typically appear after 2-3 activities have been tracked.
What do the different time periods mean?
▼
You can filter analytics by three time periods:
- Last 7 Days: Shows recent activity and immediate patterns. Great for weekly check-ins.
- Last 30 Days: Shows monthly overview and trends. Good for understanding overall engagement.
- Last 90 Days: Shows long-term progress and seasonal patterns. Useful for tracking growth over time.
What is a "streak" and why does it matter?
▼
A streak is the number of consecutive days your child has engaged with the Kids Section.
Why it matters:
- Builds consistent spiritual habits
- Provides motivation and a sense of achievement
- Helps establish daily Bible time as a routine
Celebrate streaks with your child to encourage continued engagement!
Can my child see the Parents Corner?
▼
The Parents Corner is accessible from the Kids Section navigation, so technically yes. However, it's designed for parents and contains analytics and recommendations meant for adult guidance.
The content is presented in a way that's more meaningful to parents than children. You might want to review it together with older children as a way to discuss their spiritual growth.
Why isn't activity being tracked?
▼
If activities aren't being tracked, check:
- Profile Created: Make sure you've created at least one profile
- Browser Storage: Ensure your browser allows localStorage (not in private/incognito mode)
- Storage Space: Check if your browser storage is full
- Browser Compatibility: Use a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
See the Troubleshooting Guide for more help.
The dashboard isn't loading. What should I do?
▼
Try these steps:
- Refresh the page (Ctrl+R or Cmd+R)
- Clear your browser cache
- Check your internet connection (needed for Chart.js library)
- Try a different browser
- Check the browser console for errors (F12 key)
If problems persist, see the Troubleshooting Guide.
Charts aren't displaying correctly. Help!
▼
Chart display issues can be caused by:
- No Internet: Charts require Chart.js library from CDN
- Browser Compatibility: Ensure your browser supports Canvas
- No Data: Charts need activity data to display
- Screen Size: Try viewing on a larger screen or rotating your device
If charts don't work, you can still see text summaries of all data.
I'm getting a "storage full" error. What now?
▼
Browser storage has limits (typically 5-10MB). To free up space:
- Click "Clear Old Activities" to remove data older than 30-90 days
- Export important data first as a backup
- Delete unused profiles
- Clear other website data from your browser settings
The system automatically keeps the most recent 90 days of detailed data.
How do I export my child's data?
▼
To export data:
- Scroll to the "Data Management" section at the bottom of the dashboard
- Click "Export Data"
- Select the profile you want to export
- A JSON file will download with all activities and profile information
Save this file as a backup or to transfer to another device.
What's the difference between "Clear Activities" and "Reset Profile"?
▼
Clear Old Activities:
- Removes activities older than a specified number of days
- Keeps recent activities
- Profile settings remain unchanged
- Good for freeing up storage space
Reset Profile:
- Removes ALL activities and recommendations
- Keeps the profile itself (name, age, avatar)
- Starts tracking fresh from zero
- Good for starting a new school year or season
Can I undo a delete or reset?
▼
No, deletions and resets are permanent and cannot be undone. Always export your data as a backup before performing these actions.
The system will ask you to confirm before any destructive action.
How often should I check the Parents Corner?
▼
We recommend checking weekly to stay connected with your child's spiritual journey. Many families find Sunday evenings work well.
However, check more frequently if:
- You're just starting out and want to encourage engagement
- Your child is working on specific goals (memorizing verses, completing a series)
- You notice changes in engagement patterns
How can I encourage my child to use the Kids Section more?
▼
Try these strategies:
- Set a regular time for Bible learning (before bed, after breakfast)
- Celebrate achievements and streaks
- Use conversation starters to show interest in what they're learning
- Do activities together as family time
- Let them choose what to explore (follow their interests)
- Connect lessons to real-life situations
- Make it fun, not a chore
My child only wants to play games. Is that okay?
▼
Games are a great entry point! They make learning fun and engaging. However, for well-rounded spiritual growth, gently encourage variety:
- Use the "variety suggestions" in recommendations
- Connect game themes to related stories
- Suggest "let's try something new together"
- Celebrate when they explore different areas
The analytics will show if engagement is too narrow, and recommendations will suggest ways to diversify.
Check the Troubleshooting Guide or Parents Guide for more information.
